Water

The soil of the houseplant should be slightly moist, without creating a layer of water at the bottom of the pot. The plant is sensitive to root rot. It is therefore recommended to give small amounts per gift. It is only time for a new watering when the soil starts to feel a bit drier. Check the soil moisture regularly, especially at the beginning. This shows how much water the shelf needs. If the soil is still very moist after 6 days, the Ficus will get too much water. In winter, the plant needs nearly half as much water. So pay attention to this at this time of the year.

Spraying

Spray the Ficus regularly to remove dust from the leaves. This is also for the prevention of spider mites (vermin). In winter, the Ficus loves to be sprayed by the dry air from the stove. So spray the houseplant a little more often in winter.

Light

The Ficus needs a lot of sunlight. Five hours of direct sunlight a day is the ideal environment for this characteristic houseplant. This can be achieved by placing the plant two to three meters from the window facing south or directly behind the window facing north, west or east.
The moment the plant is further away from the window, the growth will decrease and falling leaves will be replaced less quickly.

In the beginning, place the plant gradually towards the window. This prevents leaf burn. This is because the Ficus is grown under controlled light and the transition to direct light can burn the leaves.

Maintenance

A Ficus can drop leaves when the light intensity is too low or after a displacement. Especially after purchasing in winter, the plant loses its leaves. In this case, do not water more than usual! Too much water can also lead to leaf loss. When there is a lot of leaf loss, it is recommended to place the plant a little closer to the window. Especially in the spring, the growth period of the Ficus, the plant will recover completely with good care.

A single yellow leaf is not a cause for alarm at all. If several leaves turn yellow and this also happens over a longer period, this can be a sign of exhaustion. In this case, it is recommended to additionally feed the plant.

Brown leaves can indicate too much or too little water. The reaction of the plant in both cases is the same, because the roots close. Therefore, carefully check the ground to find out which scenario applies.

Pruning

Prune the Ficus every fall, or in between if the plant grows too large. This keeps the plant nice and compact without ugly shoots. Pruning in the fall ensures that the sunlight can reach the crown in winter. Note that a pruned ficus needs less water if a lot of leaves have been cut.
